Security Coast Guard anniversary Our Bureau
MANGALORE: The Coast Guard ships of III Coast Guard District (Karnataka) in New Mangalore, in association with other departments, undertook nine search and rescue missions and anti-smuggling operations and saved 19 lives during 2003, according to the Commandant of III Coast Guard District, Mr A.K. Saxena. Addressing presspersons here on Thursday, he said that Coast Guard has saved lives of fishermen, brought home the bodies of marooned personnel, and carried out medical evacuation and pollution control exercise. To commemorate its 27th anniversary, the Coast Guard will hold walkathon on February 1. Coast Guard ships will be kept open for school children and other visitors on January 31. Apart from this, there will be painting competition for children on February 1 and beach volleyball tournament on February 14 and 15, he added.
