Visakhapatnam , Jan. 29

STATE Bank of India (SBI) is planning to set up 12 more ATMs here by the end of the financial year in addition to the existing 21.

Mr S. Ramakrishnan, the outgoing Deputy General Manager of the Visakhapatnam zonal office, said at a press meet here on Thursday that the bank had 192 branches and 50 ATMs in the four districts of Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, Srikakulam and East Godavari. All the branches were computerised.

He said the deposits in the zone amounted to Rs 2,800 crore and the advances at Rs 1,482 crore. Internet banking had been introduced in 10 branches here and 10 more branches would be added soon. Mr Ramakrishnan said that on an average 300 transactions were being recorded at the ATMs, which was satisfactory. "We have spent Rs 10 lakh or so on each ATM, but the customer response has been good," he said.

He added that the bank was adjudged the best in extending micro credit to self-help groups of women in the State and the general managers of East Godavari and Srikakulam were given special awards recently by the President of India for their achievement. The branches in the zone had so far lent Rs 13.24 crore to 4,210 self-help groups.

He said there were no loss-making branches in the zone and the net NPA had been brought down to 4.51 per cent. Mr Ramakrishnan handed over charge to his successor, Mr S.K. Chaudhuri, here on Thursday.
