Maruti launches new version of Baleno

New Delhi , Jan. 29

MARUTI Udyog Ltd on Thursday launched a new version of its mid-size sedan, Baleno, and cut prices of two other existing versions of the car.

The new Baleno LXi is priced at Rs 5.60 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The new variant has the same engine as the Baleno VXi version but is without some features, such as stereo and alloy wheels.

The Baleno LXi is in response to feedback from customers that they were looking for a car that is "big, safe, delivers on performance and is priced below Rs 6 lakh," Maruti said in a statement here.

Maruti said it is reducing the price of the VXi version of Baleno by Rs 25,702 to Rs 6.29 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The price of Baleno Altura, the station wagon version, has also been cut from Rs 7.03 lakh to Rs 6.78 lakh.

Maruti said the price cut was on account of the drop in customs duty announced earlier by the government. "The Baleno, with a relatively higher import content, has seen a reduction in costs owing to the drop in customs duty announced by the Government. The company has decided to pass on the benefit," Maruti said.
