New IUC regime from today

Our Bureau

New Delhi , Jan. 31

THE revised interconnection usage charge (IUC) regime will be in force from Sunday as scheduled despite requests for a postponement by many telecom operators.

According to official sources, since the implementation of the IUC has been postponed thrice earlier, it was decided not to tamper with the schedule once again. However, the new numbering scheme for CDMA mobile subscribers, which was to be implemented from February 1, has been postponed by a month.

The new time schedule has been fixed because of requests for more time from BSNL, Tata Teleservices and Reliance Infocomm. The telephone numbers of all CDMA subscribers will be converted from the existing eight digits to 10 digits starting March 1, on the lines of GSM mobile numbers.
