Visakhapatnam , Feb. 2 CHHATTISGARHis on a marketing drive to promote its tribal arts and crafts by holding exhibitions in different parts of the country. After inaugurating the week-long exhibition here on Monday, Mr J.L. Merawi, a manager in the State's Rural Industries Department, said at a press conference that throughout the year exhibitions were conducted and the next one would be in Raipur, the State Capital, from February 14. He said the last exhibition in Bangalore had elicited a good response and "we are making our presence felt in other parts''. Terracotta products, wrought-iron pieces, wood carvings, bamboo products and exquisite decorative pieces made out of seashell fibre were on display at the exhibition here. Mr Mewaria said 30 artisans from 16 districts of the State were participating in the fair. "Our aim in the first place is to acquaint people of other regions with the arts and crafts of our Girijans. We are hopeful of making an impact in Andhra Pradesh, especially the north-coastal districts, as they are much nearer to Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh also has a rich tradition of tribal arts and crafts,'' he said.
