Interim Railway Budget passed in Lok Sabha

THE Lok Sabha today approved the Interim Railway Budget with a vote-on-account for Rs 26,000 crore towards expenditure in the first four months of the next financial year.

The House also passed the Demands for Grants for 2004-05, Supplementary Demands for Grants 2003-04, Demands for Excess Grant 2001-02 of the Railways as also relevant appropriation Bills by voice vote after a four-hour debate.

The Interim Railway Budget for 2004-05 was passed with the Railway Minister, Mr Nitish Kumar, stating that all pending projects worth Rs 43,000 crore would be completed in the next five years and safety and security of passengers accorded topmost priority.

``In the next five years, all sanctioned projects, including those pending for the last 10 to 20 years, will be completed,'' he added.
