New Delhi , Feb. 4

DEFENCE products have succeeded in making headway in both exports and non-defence segment, according to the Defence Minister, Mr George Fernandes.

Inaugurating the Third Defexpo India 2004 here on Wednesday, the Minister said the country's ordnance factories sold equipment worth Rs 869 crore to non-defence customers during the last fiscal year and the figure was expected to touch Rs 944 crore during 2003-2004.

Exports in the current year were expected to be better than last year's $47 million, Mr Fernandes said at the exposition, which was jointly organised by the Defence Ministry and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
