Festive fervour

The Road Opening Party (ROP) of the State police on guard duty at Naxalite-infested Medaram in Warangal district, where the three-day tribal festival `Samakka Saralakka' began on Wednesday. Personnel of this squad are experts in hideout checking, road clearance and area searching. (below) Motor vehicles have replaced bullock carts that used to carry people to the festival. Just a decade ago, carts used to be the main mode of transport for the tribals attending the festival.
