Tea Small tea growers seek interest subsidy on special term loan Our Bureau
Wellington (Nilgiris) , Feb. 5 FOR the 65,000-odd small tea growers of the Nilgiris, the special term loan announcement in the interim Budget was a much awaited one. ``This term loan is expected tohelp the 1.3 lakh growers in various States in India,'' said Mr Bhojarajan, President of the Nilgiris Small Growers Association and Vice-Chairman of the Tea Board. According to him, this demand was put forward by the small growers during a meeting with the Indian Bank Association in Kolkata recently. Mr Bhojarajan requested the banks to implement this immediately as the growers are in dire need of immediate finance. ``At this juncture, we also request that the Tea Board subsidise the interest to the extent of four per cent as done by the Coffee Board,'' he said.
