Bangalore , Feb. 5

SCHNEIDER Electric Industries SAS France said on Thursday that it is setting up a global research and development (R&D) centre in Bangalore.

The Bangalore centre, expected to be operational by March this year would carry out activities spanning areas of electromechanical design, electronic design (digital and analog) and software development, said a company press release.

Schneider expects its Bangalore R&D centre to have a headcount of 100 people by end-2004. The company expects to ramp-up its team to around 300 employees within 2-3 years of establishment.

The Bangalore centre is being set-up as a division of Schneider Electric India Pvt Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Schneider Electric Industries SAS.

Schneider's decision to set up an R&D centre in India was mainly driven by the availability of a large pool of engineering and technical talent with strong product development experience and is in line with its strategy to be more global, the release said.
