New Products & Services Taj Connemara unveils refurbished guestrooms Our Bureau
Chennai , Feb. 5 THE Taj Connemara today launched its newly refurbished guestrooms, renovated at a cost of around Rs 8 crore. Ms Jyoti Narang, Chief Operating Officer, Business Hotels, The Indian Hotels Company Ltd, said that currently 35 rooms had been refurbished and the rest would be ready by the end of the month. The tariff is Rs 5,500 now and is likely to be increased by around 15 per cent. The second phase would include the verandah, coffee shop, banqueting facilities and a new restaurant, she said. Two other business class hotels in Mumbai and Bangalore have been renovated at a cost of Rs 35 crore and Rs 40 crore respectively, she added. Ms Narang said that this was part of the ongoing renovation work at the business hotels. The work was done based on consumer research which revealed that besides creature comforts, most guests "wanted to be pampered, were lonely and had a need to de-stress". Since the renovation work was capital-intensive, forecasts of lifestyle changes and trends both international and domestic would have to be taken into account. Unlike the renovation done in the Bangalore hotel, the work on Connemara has looked at the rich heritage of the hotel. "The aim has been to recapture the sense of glamour and history that this hotel holds in Chennai." Some of the special features include wooden wardrobes, parquet floors and broadband wireless Internet connection. Besides the air conditioning, there are ceiling fans that have been designed to rotate both ways, allowing the guest to decide which direction the breeze should flow. The London-based Richmond International has redesigned the rooms.
