Our Bureau

Chennai , Feb. 5

THE US-based Brooks Automation, which makes software for semi-conductor manufacturers, has set up a software research and development centre in Chennai.

The centre would support the engineering research and development of the parent company. Its functions would include software maintenance and support for existing products, quality control, documentation, technical support and development of new software products. The centre would also increase the level of support for Brooks' customers in Greater China and in the rest of the Asia-Pacific region.

At present, Brooks outsources some of its software development to HCL Technologies and to NeST in India. Mr Ed Grady, President and COO, Brooks said, "We will continue our relationships with our Indian partners. We will not replace their workers with ours in our new centre. But both teams could be co-located in our centre.''
