Xansa unfazed; to beef up India team

Mumbai , Feb. 5

DESPITE the outcry against outsourcing work to India, the UK-based BPO and IT services firm Xansa is bullish on India and plans to double its headcount, with a planned investment of £24 million over the next few years.

Addressing the media here at the Nasscom Leadership Forum 2004, Mr Alistair Cox, Chief Executive, Xansa, said the Indian employee base would account for 50 per cent of the company's global operations in two years.

"There will be some amount of displacement of work in the UK, however our workforce numbers will remain flat. Without the Indian operations, we would not have been able to grow as efficiently in the markets we operate,'' Mr Cox said.

Currently, Xansa (India) Ltd has an employee base of 1,600 people, which would be scaled up to 2,000 by the year-end and doubled by end-2005. With an upcoming facility at Pune and two fully operational centres at Noida and Chennai, the company has projected the total capacity in India to touch 10,000 seats on a single-shift basis.

The Indian operations would focus on providing high value back-office processes for the utilities and credit card firms along with the retail and telecom clients of the company, Mr Cox said.
