Telecommunications A mixed tone for mobile users in Kerala Our Bureau
Kochi , Feb. 6 SUBSEQUENT to the announcement of the new inter-connectivity user charges regime, Kerala's mobile subscribers will be privy to a mixed bag of some new benefits as well as some additional charges. The calls made by Reliance Mobile subscribers under the popular Economy 149 and Budget 149 plans will become cheaper by 25 per cent for local intra circle calls. Calls made to mobile phones will be charged Rs 1.49 as against the earlier tariff of Rs 1.99. The charges for calls to fixed line phones at more than 500 kms would remain the same at Rs 3.99 per minute. "We have also come out with a flurry of new facilities and added services for our mobile customers" Mr S.R. Pillai, Principal General Manager, BSNL, told Business Line. BSNL mobile subscribers in the Rs 325 monthly plan are eligible for 75 free calls, while the Rs 525 monthly plan are eligible for 150 free calls under the loyalty scheme, which is offered to subscribers who have been customers of Cell One for over six months. Additional pre-paid recharge coupons will be eligible for 38 free calls under the Rs 70 plan and 85 free calls under the Rs 150 plan. The loyalty scheme has come into effect from February 1. But for Reliance Mobile subscribers, the national long distance call rates in the 50 to 200 km and 200 to 500 km slabs have been increased from Rs 1.99 to Rs 2.99 per minute. The revised charges have been made applicable to calls made from Reliance Mobile to fixed lines as well.
