Bangalore , Feb. 6

GLOBAL supplier of Internet data and voice solutions, Cable & Wireless, plans to outsource more work to the country and expects 50 per cent increase in revenues from its Indian operations.

"We are likely to outsource more work to India. There is huge potential here," Cable & Wireless Chief Executive Officer for Japan and Asia, Mr Phil Green, told newspersons.

He said India's main strength was in better skill sets and Cable & Wireless wanted to use it to its advantage.

Mr Green said a major restructuring exercise was being carried out in its global operations and the company would take a decision on outsourcing to countries such as India and China subsequently.

Currently, the company's Indian outfit carries out the BPO activities of its parent's operations in the UK. Mr Green said the criticism against move to outsource more work to India was unwarranted.

Mr Green said the company expected to grow its revenues in India by 50 per cent during the current yearEarlier, Cable & Wireless announced that it has extended its global data network into India through a cooperative relationship with Reliance Infocomm.

This alliance will enable the company to extend its portfolio of global network services into India to meet growing demand from multinationals for managed international data network services in India. The new data service network, with access points in Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai covers about 60 per cent of the business market in India. It is connected to Cable & Wireless global data network via redundant cable routes with access points interconnected by backbone network from Reliance Infocomm.

Some of the managed data network services to be provided over the new network are frame relay, managed private line and IP-VPN. Cable & Wireless India, which manages private networks for large enterprise in India, will now extend these services to multinational companies from the UK, the US and Japan.
