Discussion on industry

Our Bureau

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Group of Technopark Companies (GTECH) will hold a discussion on `What ails enterprises in Kerala' here on Monday.

Among co-organisers are the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII), TiE Kerala, the Kerala Management Association, the Trivandrum Management Association, the IEEE Kerala Section and the Computer Society of India, Trivandrum Chapter.

A GTECH spokesman said here that although Kerala has been able to make significant strides from the seventies and the eighties, the largely industry-unfriendly environment had proved its bane, and was yet to reach a level comparable to that of the other southern States that have done exceptionally well in attracting investment and generating employment. Even considering that Kerala is not appropriate for certain kinds of heavy industries, it is felt that the existing industry, including IT and ITES, do not have a level playing ground compared to its counterparts in other States.
