MADURAI: The All-India Federation of Cottage Matches Manufacturers' Association will hold a dharna in Virudhunagar district and in places like Tuticorin, Tiruchi and Gudiyatham, to draw the attention of the Central and State Governments, demanding a ban on the sale of matches manufactured by mechanised units.

According to Mr S. Palanikumar, General Secretary of the Association, the Indian Tobacco Company (ITC), has already laid the groundwork in the northern States.

This would have an adverse effect on the marketing of matches manufactured in the cottage industries in the southern districts.

He urged immediate stoppage of production and marketing by mechanised units in the country.
