Health Global Hospital shows the way in heart transplantation Our Bureau
Hyderabad , Feb. 8 FOR the first time in Andhra Pradesh, Global Hospitals has conducted heart transplantation on 33-year-old, Mr K. Ramesh, of Medchal in Ranga Reddy district. Dr A. Gopalakrishna Gokhale, a senior cardio thoracic and transplant surgeon who led the team, said the patient was suffering from end-stage heart disease and needed transplantation. "Transplantation is a step forward in treating heart patients. But it took nearly four decades for it to come to the State," he said. The transplantation, usually costs Rs 6 to Rs 8 lakh in India and $ 1,00,000 in the US. Addressing a news conference here, Dr Ravindranath, Managing Director of Global Hospitals, said it all began with the death of a person in a road accident on Friday morning. Commending the kin for their magnanimity for donating the vital organs, he said one eye went to L.V. Prasad Eye Institute, while heart and liver were given to Global for transplantation. The Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences and Apollo Hospitals got one kidney each for transplantation. The Multi-Organ Harvesting Aid Network played a key role in motivating the kin of the donor and organising distribution of the organs among various hospitals.
