Belgium open to outsourcing to India

Hyderabad , Feb. 9

BELGIUM today said it has no reservations about awarding Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) work to India.

Addressing members of Federation of Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FAPCCI) here today, Mr Herman Merckx, Consul-General of Belgium in Mumbai said, "we welcome it if it helps."

Replying to a question on the growing opposition in the US and UK to awarding BPO work to India, he said there was some resistance but it was only political talk to win votes. Promoting his country as ideal location for those who want to set up their Europe centre, he said it could be made a "base" for companies take care of Western Europe.

Strongly advocating for bilateral promotion of tourism, he asked the chambers to arrange for a tourism road show to sell the tourism potential of Andhra Pradesh.

He said he had found that there was more to Indian tourism than Kerala and Taj Mahal. "There is a lot of scope in this area," he said.

"There are also good opportunities in processed food and automotive industry.

Mr S.S.R. Koteswara Rao, President of FAPCCI, asked the Belgium official to depute a trade delegation to Hyderabad to explore business opportunities.
