THE Union Ministry of coal has appointed Mr V.K. Singh, Director (Technical) of Central Coalfields Ltd (CLL) as Chairman-cum-Managing Director of Northern Coalfields Ltd (NCL) with immediate effect.

The position was vacant with the transfer of Mr M.K. Sinha as Director (Technical) in Coal India Ltd (CIL) to replace Mr A. Kalam who has been transferred to Eastern Coalfields Ltd (ECL ) as CMD.

Informed sources say that the Ministry, after examining the seniority of Mr Sinha, is considering a roll back of Mr Sinha's transfer to the CIL-Headquarters where his junior, Director (Marketing) of CIL, Mr Sashi Kumar, is at present officiating as Chairman of CIL.

Incidentally, Mr Sinha, who was once Director (Technical) of CIL prior to his appointment as CMD of NCL, has gone on leave.
