IIM-C students launch consulting consortium

Our Bureau

New Delhi , Feb 9

THE Consulting Club of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Calcutta launched an International Consulting Consortium (ICC) here on Monday, which will be in partnership with consulting clubs of 14 business schools across the world.

The consortium consisting of the London Business School, Emory University, Marshall School of Business, Indiana University, Richard Ivey School of Business, Peter Drucker School of Business, University of Michigan, Darden University, Melbourne Business School and several others, will get together to pursue several activities, including international project outsourcing, knowledge sharing, networking and job search.

Essentially a student venture, ICC hopes to rope in more consulting clubs once it gets established.

On the project outsourcing front as per ICC's plan, each consulting club would pitch for consulting projects in their domain country and, if scope allows, divide it among other consortium partners for an even distribution of experience and knowledge. For instance, explains the IIM Calcutta Consulting Club President, Mr M. Scalem, who is also chairperson of ICC, if a project requires work in London, Australia or the US, the local consortium club will provide consultancy that is cultural and socio-economic specific.

ICC plans to have a regular international consulting festival where member clubs could simultaneously conduct various consulting related events such as workshops, case contests, online international competitions and so on in their respective institutes.

ICC would also network and build a job search forum within itself and beyond that will facilitate an interaction between employers and club members.

ICC was inaugurated by Mr Sudarshan Banerjee, CEO, Dalmia Consumer Care (DCC), while the ICC journal and Web site were given the green signal by Dr Uddesh Kohli, Senior Vice-President, All-India Management Association (AIMA) and Chairman, Consultancy Development Centre India (CDC). The sponsors were Tata Consultancy Services and DCC.
