Reprieve for TN Govt staff

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Government has granted a reprieve to all Government employees penalised for participating in an indefinite strike called by trade unions on July 2, 2003.

It hiked the dearness allowance by 3 percentage points for the Government employees and teachers with effect from February 2004.

Replying to the discussions on the motion of thanks to the Governor's address, the Chief Minister, Ms Jayalalithaa said that all the employees dismissed from service would be reinstated. They will lose four years' wage increase with cumulative effect.

Similarly, the staff who were demoted will be restored to their original posting. They will lose two years' cumulative wage increase.

Employees who were penalised with three years' loss of cumulative wage increase will lose one year's hike, she said.

Through the hike in dearness allowance the Government will incur an additional expenditure of Rs 201 crore, she said.
