Software exports up 26% in last fiscal

SOFTWARE and services generated revenues of $12.16 billion in 2002-03, growing at 21 per cent over the previous fiscal, according to Electronics and Computer Software Export Promotion Council (ESC).

ESC said in its Statistical Year Book of Indian IT and Electronics Industry 2002-03 that the growth of the sector in the year was lower than the 26-per cent jump the sector notched up in 2001-02.

In 2001-02, revenues of the sector stood at $10.09 billion.

ESC said software exports grew by 25.54 per cent in 2002-03 to $9.67 billion from $7.65 billion a year ago. Exports accounted for 78.95 per cent of total software and services generated in the year.

The domestic software industry grew by five per cent to $2.65 billion, the ESC report said.
