THE Human Rights Forum has urged the Visakhapatnam municipal corporation to provide the public with the Telugu version of the master plan for Visakhapatnam metropolitan region perspective - 2021 and seek objections and suggestions only after that has been done.
In a statement here on Tuesday, Dr U. Vindhya and Mr V.S. Krishna, spokespersons of the forum, said the VMC had released the master plan only in English on February 6 and fixed February 15 as the last date for registering objections.
They said the master plan, running into 143 pages with several maps and zoning regulations, would not be comprehensible to the common man. Only the elite would be able to express their opinions, suggestions and objections on the plan. As Vizag is a fast-growing city, with the State Government's focus on tourism, many sections of people, especially fishermen, will be affected and they should be provided the master plan in Telugu.
The marginalised sections of society should at least be given a chance to voice their objections, they said.
