HYDERABAD: The one-man commission, which inquired into the gamut of security arrangements in the wake of the attack on Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu last year, has recommended setting up of a National Commission on Naxalism.

The commission headed by Mr Prakash Singh, former DGP of Uttar Pradesh, presented its report here on Monday. The report recommended that the Commission should investigate ramifications of the problem encompassing nine states in the country.

Mr Singh said, in a brief interaction with the media, that he had suggested short and long-term measures after detailed inquiry and analysis of the problem lasting over four months. He said that he questioned around 36 police officers and other people.

However, he appreciated efforts of the State police in curbing the naxal menace, in comparison with other eight naxal-infected states. Mr Singh suggested some changes in Chief Minister's security setup in the wake of the coming Lok Sabha elections.
