Kerala Govt plans consumer awareness drive

Our Bureau

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Minister for Food and Civil Supplies, Mr G. Karthikeyan, has said that the State Government has taken decisive steps to strengthen the consumer awareness movement in the State.

An official spokesman quoted him as saying that the Department of Consumer Affairs would launch a publicity campaign to highlight the relevance for raised consumer awareness. Consumers all over the State were being subjected to exploitation by vested interests.

Even manufacturers have been taking them for a ride through propaganda of falsehood and inflated claims on the suitability of their products.

This exploitative mentality could be countered by way of awareness programmes, which would now be organised across the State. The first in the series would be conducted at Wayanad on February 25. This will be replicated in all districts down to the panchayat level, the Minister said.
