KOCHI: Computer Society of India has been designated by the Kerala State IT Mission as the official certification partner of the State Government's prestigious Akshaya project to `bridge the digital divide'.

CSI's endeavour is to certify over 10 lakh people as e-literate. An initiative of the IT department, Akshaya aims to impart functional digital literacy to over 64 lakh families in Kerala. It intends to transform Kerala into India's foremost knowledge society by familiarising at least one person from every family in the State with the basic use of computers and empowering them to access relevant e-content in regional language.

Mr Sathish Babu, Regional VP (South), CSI, said the first phase of testing was expected to assess over 100,000 test makers making it the biggest certification exercise worldwide. CSI has done tremendous spade work for the project.
