Speed boat service planned in Kerala

KOCHI: The State Water Transport Department will convert its boats into high-speed tourist boats once the Goshree bridges are completed, the State Transport Minister, Mr R.Balakrishna Pillai, has said.

The department will press into service 11 such boats within next three months he said after launching the first Green Express Speedboat service in the sector. A Mattanchery Ernakulam Jankar Service will also be launched after the completion of the bridges.

The Green Express will cover the Ernakulam-Fort Kochi distance within 15 minutes and the ticket fare is Rs 4.50 against the bus fare of Rs 5.50. The Government will consider the proposal for starting Thiruvananthapuram-Ernakulam boat service once the Vizhinjam port becomes operational, he said.
