Coonoor tea sale buoyant

THE post-Budget auctions conducted by the Coonoor Tea Trade Association (CTTA) showed signs of buoyancy with the quality teas fetching a sizable improvement in prices.

Traders said the announcement of Rs 2 a kg subsidy and the bank loans at 9 per cent interest had instilled a lot of hope in the market.

Nearly one lakh kgs fetched over Rs 60 a kg, thereby netting more than Rs 65 lakh.Darmona Estate continued to top the list amidst the CTC teas in the bought leaf sector. This week, they fetched Rs 86 a kg.

On the orthodox front, the best high grown were up by Rs 2. Others were steady. Buyers for Pakistan market picked up CTC teas around Rs 39 a kg. Those for CIS markets chose the cleaner, brighter and grainer types for Rs 34. The buyers for Poland market supported such teas at Rs 32.
