Bengal seeks investments in IT sector

THE West Bengal Government on Wednesday invited entrepreneurs in the area of information technology to invest in the State and avail themselves of the large pool of English-speaking people and good network of academic institutes.

According to Mr Manabendra Mukherjee, Minister in charge of IT, the State aspires to have 10-15 per cent share of the country's software services sector.

He said at the Indiasoft 2004 conference here that there has been steady growth in IT exports from the State in the recent years. Between 1996-2001, the compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of IT exports from the State was 114 per cent.
