Accidents Coast Guard rescues 9 people Our Bureau
MANGALORE: The Coast Guard here has rescued nine crewmembers of a cargo vessel that had developed flooding in its engine room. A press release by the Commandant and District Commander of III Coast Guard District, Karnataka, Mr A.K. Saxena, said on Thursday that Maritime Search and Rescue Sub-centre of Coast Guard District Headquarters No. 3 received a message at 9.15 p.m. on February 11 that motor sailing boat (MSB) Sabinath Badiaria, a 24.5-metre-long inland cargo vessel on voyage to Kiltan Island of Lakshadeep Islands with general cargo embarked on board, had developed flooding off Mangalore. Considering the urgency of situation, the Coast guard Commander sailed Coast Guard Ship C-131 with additional submersible pumps and experts to combat flooding at sea. The CG Ship, which reached the site at 11.05 p.m., rendered assistance to save nine crewmembers. When the situation came under control, the local pilot of the Old Mangalore Port brought the ship safely to the Old Port. The release stated that timely action of the Coast Guard helped in saving crewmembers and bringing MSB Sabinath Badiaria to the harbour.
