Outsourcing Reuters shifts jobs from US, UK to Bangalore Our Bureau
Bangalore , Feb. 12 GLOBAL information company, Reuters, will shift 150 jobs from its US and UK operations and hire 450 more in Bangalore to carry out its data management work. The Reuters Global Head of Data Operations, Mr Justin Abel, told newspersons on Thursday that this would save the company at least 60 per cent of the cost. "By the end of 2005, we expect to have 600 people in our data facility in Bangalore," Mr Abel said. Shift in jobs to India will not necessarily lead to loss of jobs elsewhere, he said. "We plan to redeploy them in other areas of work." The data operations facility will be involved in sourcing company data, carrying out analysis, work on private equity offerings, fixed income and quality assurance. "Priority work will be coming to India," Mr Abel said. Bangalore was chosen as its new data operations facility after evaluating 15 Indian cities. "The city offers Reuters a high-quality, broad labour pool and strong political support," he said. The facility, which will be operational by March, will be the only one among its nine centres, which will work on a 24 by 5 basis. The Reuters Human Resources Manager for South Asia, Mr Anand Khare, said those with finance degree and up to three years as experience would be recruited at the junior levels. The selected candidates will undergo 12-14 weeks of training. He said there are around 1,000 people working as data and market analysts in various locations. Out of these, 150 jobs will be relocated to Bangalore.
