Tea CTC teas down at Kochi auction Our Bureau
Kochi , Feb. 15 A FAIR general demand persisted for almost all varieties of tea at the Kochi tea auction. Of the quantity of 7,82,000 kg on offer in the dust category, CTC market opened barely steady. But the prices dropped by Rs 2-3 as the sale progressed. Orthodox highgrowns were dearer and mediums easier. The best CTC varieties commanded prices between Rs 47 and Rs 65, medium CTC realised Rs 40-45 and poorer type were quoted Rs 30-35. Highgrown BOPD fetched prices between Rs 65 and Rs 110, while medium BOPD realised Rs 30-32. Secondaries were quoted at Rs 25-28, while residuals realised Rs 25. The leaf sale also witnessed a fair general demand and the quantity on offer was 2,41,000 kg. Orthodox leaf grades remained steady. Good NRD CTC teas were steady, while other CTC teas barely steady to irregularly easier. Exporters to CIS continued to operate in less strength and they were selective. However, secondaries and low priced orthodox witnessed good demand for other exporters. The best Nilgiri varieties commanded prices between Rs 44 and Rs 64, medium orthodox realised Rs 35-46. The best CTC leaf fetched prices between Rs 45 and Rs 57, while medium CTC leaf realised Rs 34-42.
