Murugesan (35), a shepherd from Coimbatore, with his herd at Karakulam in Palakkad district. They have already covered about 70 km, grazing the herds in fields where harvesting is over. The herd is handed over to the owner when they return home after several months of nomadic wandering. The shepherd is paid Rs 2,000 per month. A grown sheep fetches the owner between Rs 1,000 and Rs 1,500.
