The scene at a high-tech counter of the Friends Janasevana Kendram in Kochi, where all payments due to the government, including exam fees, can be made. Such centres, in operation at all the 14 district headquarters in the State, have become popular as they function from 9 am to 7 pm. Last month's collection at the Kochi centre stood at Rs 1.84 crore. However, this facility appears to be headed for a crisis as the Revenue Department is said to have recalled all its staff deputed to man the counters by March 31.
