Policy Industry & Economy - Human Resources Knowledge policy in the offing Ambarish Mukherjee
New Delhi , Feb. 17 WITH the 21st century being termed as the century for knowledge economy, the BJP-led NDA Government is putting in place a National Knowledge Policy (NKP) encompassing all segments of the knowledge economy. However, the new policy framework will be put in place only after the new Government is formed. The Minister of State in the HRD Ministry, Dr Sanjay Paswan, told Business Line that a National Knowledge Policy is in the pipeline. A task force is being set up which will be headed by a joint secretary level official and will work on the basics before a draft policy is prepared. "The policy will be a holistic exhaustive policy encompassing all areas of the knowledge economy and its various dimensions," he said. While there are separate sectoral policies already in place for several segments of what is commonly perceived as knowledge economy such as information technology and drugs and pharmaceuticals at the initiative of the respective administrative Ministries, the proposed knowledge policy will be exhaustive and integrate all the existing policies.
