1,500 tonnes cement shipped from Nagapattinam Port

Our Correspondent

Madurai , Feb. 17

ABOUT 1,500 tonnes cement of Ramco were exported to Sri Lanka from Nagapattinam Port, after a gap of 14 years.

With the initiation of export activities at the port, classified as a minor port, it is expected to provide job opportunities to at least 750 labourers initially. Until 1985, the port had been fully operational for both passenger and cargo ships. Later, it fell into disuse as a result of a fire accident.

With transhipment of petroleum products owing to the establishment of an oil jetty at Nagapattinam by the Chennai Petroleum Corporation, the port acquired a new lease of life.
