E-Commerce & E-Business Logistics - Airlines Pricol Travels launches e-ticketing for air travel R.Y. Narayanan
Coimbatore , Feb. 19 FOR any air traveller, the most fundamental but a rather irksome processes to complete even before he sets foot into an airport is the purchase of tickets in the conventional form of a booklet. And more the number of passengers in a group, more are the number of tickets to be carried, which carry tear-away portions. But just as e-banking has enabled one to conduct banking transactions from the comforts of his/her home and e-trading has made purchase/sale of stocks and MF units a hassle free exercise, e-ticketing has made its entry into India and a Coimbatore-based travel organisation claims to have become probably the first travel company in South India to issue an e-ticket for a Lufthansa passenger. Mr Vikram Mohan, Managing Director, Pricol Travels Ltd, explaining the advantages of e-ticketing, said the air passengers could enjoy the benefit of having the air ticket printed on a single sheet for their travel on even more than one sector at a stretch. All they have to do while collecting the boarding passes was to show the printed ticket, confirm their PNR number and identity. He said the system had several advantages for the buyer of air tickets, particularly corporates who have tie-ups with travel agents. They could download the tickets in their systems and there was no need for the company staff or the travel agent's representative to collect/make physical delivery of tickets which help in saving costs. Since a single printed sheet would be enough for a multi-destination travel, there was no need to carry a number of tickets to complete the journey. The buyers also would be spared of the worry of loss of tickets and except for the print-out, it would be entirely a paperless exercise. On the question of payment for the e-tickets, he said that since the users would be mainly corporate clients having accounts with the company or regular customers of Pricol Travels, there would be no problem. Others who approach it for air tickets also could be given e-tickets on payment of the requisite fare. Mr Vikram Mohan said his company had tied up with Galileo for extending the facility of e-ticketing. The company will formally launch this facility on February 23 and it would be available in all its five branches including Coimbatore and Chennai. It has already made a soft launch
