Infrastructure Logistics - Roadways Centre okays Rs 1,428 cr for roads in 7 States Our Bureau
New Delhi , Feb. 19 IN yet another clearance, which is likely to go down well with the rural folks just before the elections, the Union Minister of Rural Development, Mr Kashiram Rana, on Thursday approved the proposal for phase-III (2003-04) of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) for Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Orissa and Nagaland. The total length of roads, which have been approved, is 7,582.29 kilometres and will be constructed at a cost of Rs 1,427.71 crore. As for State-wise details of the road projects approved, Andhra Pradesh will have 1,154.30 kilometres constructed at a cost of Rs 142.86 crore. The total number of road works approved is 375 and will benefit people of 597 habitations in the State. The projects approved include 356 proposals made by MPs of the State. For Chhattisgarh (under Part II of Phase III of PMGSY), 1,872.72 kilometres of roads have been approved and they will cost Rs 412.59 crore. The total number of road works approved is 359, which will benefit people of 790 habitations in the State. Of the 359 projects, 235 proposals were recommended by MPs of the State. For Gujarat, the approval is for 323.99 kilometres to be constructed at a cost of Rs 45.21 crore. The total number of 142 road works will benefit people of 190 habitations in the State and includes 107 proposals made by the State's MPs.
