Central team arrives in Kerala to assess drought impact

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A five-member team of officials from the Union Agriculture Ministry, led by Mr J.P. Meena, Joint Secretary, arrived here to take stock of the drought-like situation prevailing in the State.
Other members of the team are Mr Joginder Singh, Additional Commissioner, Agriculture, Mr B. C. Munda, Director, Planning Commission, Dr C. Mohan Chudani, Director, Ministry of Finance, and Dr D.A. Mathewkutty, Director, Horticulture.
The team held preliminary discussions on Friday with a State Government team of officials comprising Mr Babu Jacob, Additional Chief Secretary, Mr Sundaresan, Principal Secretary, Revenue, Ms Lizzie Jacob, Principal Secretary, Power, Mr T. M. Manoharan, Chairman, Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB), Mr V. P. Joy, Secretary, Agriculture, Ms Lida Jacob, Secretary, Public Works, and others.
The Central team is expected to hold talks with the Revenue Minister, Mr K. M. Mani, in Kottayam on Saturday.
