TO become a global economic powerhouse, the key challenge is to grow in a manner that can ensure that all sections of society are part of this growth pattern, according to Mr Herman van der Iaan, Director, ILO Sub-regional Office.
He said thisat a seminar on `Human resource management for strengthening corporate competitiveness: Japanese experiences'. The seminar was organised by the All India Organisation of Employers here on Friday. Stating that India has a tremendous potential to become a global economic powerhouse, he said, the best possible way to meet the challenges of globalisation is to ensure that all sections of society grow together. He added that pledging gender balance in the field of work was incidentally a part of ILO's (International Labour Organization) agenda.
He asserted that there were three areas of concern, critical in this regard. These were establishing a social dialogue; emphasising on education and skill development training and the challenge of corporate social responsibility.
Stating that the social infrastructure has not changed sufficiently, he said that the employers would have to play a key role in this direction. He urged for a larger tripartite (employers, Government and workers) cooperation, including dialogue for making work more productive.
