Cognizant Technologies plans to set up a second technocomplex in Pune. It is also planning a development centre in Bangalore and a second one in Chennai.

Talking to presspersons, Mr R. Chandrasekaran, Managing Director and Executive Vice-President, CTS, said the second complex in Pune would come in Hinjewadi, close to its existing technocomplex. The campus would be spread over a one-lakh sq ft area and would house 1,000 software professionals. The investment for this would be Rs 35 crore, he said.

The first technocomplex, spread over 1,35,000 sq ft, was set up two years ago at a cost of Rs 40 crore and accommodates 1,000 software professionals. Mr Chandrasekaran said the company would also be adding another 500 professionals to its Pune development centre thereby touching 2,500 by December 2005.

He said that the second centre would become the global hub for banking solutions. Mr Chandrasekaran said its development centre in Bangalore would house 1,000 software professionals. It would be ready by the first quarter of 2005.

He said the second development centre in Chennai would be at an investment of close to Rs 115 crore and is expected to be completed by December 2005 and would house 4,000 software professionals.

He said CTS is also looking at acquisitions for expansion of the geographical footprint, strengthening the domain expertise in verticals and fill in gaps or strengthen capabilities in the solutions spectrum. "We are currently looking at three areas of high-end transaction processing-oriented BPO companies, companies with niche specialisation in SAP or Peoplesoft, and small companies in China to jump-start our operations,'' he said.

He said plans were already on for the setting up of a development centre in China to service the Japanese customers as also the companies that were setting up operations in China, he added.
