Thai expo in September

Hyderabad , Feb. 20

A THREE-day `Thailand Exhibition-2004' will be held in the second week of September in Hyderabad.

The expo will enable Thailand create a demand for its products and also identify potential partners.

"The objective is to facilitate face-to-face interaction with the local consumers and businessmen, creating awareness and demand for our products," Ms Ubolphan Klykoom, Assistant Director General of Export Promotion (Thailand), told Business Line.

The first edition of the expo would have about 100 players showcasing their products. "We will be displaying finished products, textiles for upholstery, leather goods and processed food," she said.

"There is a huge potential for the products, particularly for finished products, in Hyderabad. Let us create a demand for the products which will lead to imports," she said.

During the expo, the Thai entrepreneurs would look for potential alliances as well. Thailand has been organising similar shows in Mumbai, Chennai and Bangalore for the last three years.

Earlier addressing members of FAPCCI (Federation of Andhra Pradesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry), she asked the Indian businessmen to do their homework well before taking up ventures. "Look for niche products and those which are not available in Thailand," she said, answering a questing on potential for export of herbal products from India.

"While India is strong in raw materials, we are good at finished products and textiles among others," she said.

Mr Prakob Panjacharoensiri, Consul (Commercial) and Director of Thai Trade Centre in Mumbai, said he welcomed the idea of setting up an Indo-Thai association for the promotion of bilateral trade. But, then, substantial trade should be preceded before going for such arrangement, he felt.

Mr S.S.R. Koteswara Rao, President of FAPCCI, asked the Thai Government to depute a delegation to tap business opportunities. He also called for set up a branch of Thai Trade Centre or Indo-Thai Chamber of Commerce in Hyderabad.
