Close to 44 per cent of the respondents felt that the expected growth rate of their respective companies during the current fiscal would be 10-20 per cent and 22 per cent expected growth to be about 20-30 per cent. The survey also shows that there were about two per cent of the respondents who expected growth of 30-40 per cent.

About 70 per cent of the respondents felt that the global slowdown has moderately affected exports from India, while 12 per cent felt that it had significantly affected exports and 10 per cent felt it had no effect at all.

A majority of the respondents (74 per cent) felt that the export growth of 18 per cent registered during 2002-03 was sustainable during the current year. Only 26 per cent of the respondents felt that this growth rate was not sustainable.

About 60 per cent of the respondents conveyed "dissatisfaction" with the customs procedures, while 40 per cent were "satisfied" with the procedures. Some of the changes in customs procedures suggested during the Survey included careful handling of goods by customs authorities while checking, avoiding constant failure of EDI system hampering shipments, allowing courier exports at Goa, and introduction of parallel system in case of breakdown and finally better co-ordination between the Customs and DGFT.

The survey highlights the need for several improvements at the ports and airports. These include faster movement of containers from CWC, allowing operation by more than one container freight contractor besides making concerted efforts to reduce the turn around time for vessels.
