Tourism Hotel Metropole relaunched To throw open doors for guests in May Our Bureau
Bangalore , Feb. 23 HOTEL Metropole, a heritage building enjoying the patronage of global travellers in the Royal City of Mysore sometime ago, has been formally relaunched after restoration of the premises to suit the modern amenities. The hotel, had remained closed for sometime as it had been handed over to the Jungle Lodges and Resorts Ltd (JLR), a State Government undertaking specialising in eco-tourism. The hotel has been renovated at cost of Rs 3 crore and was formally inaugurated in its new avatar by the Chief Minister, Mr S.M. Krishna, on Sunday. It will be formally thrown open to guests in May. Built before 1900 during the reign of Wodeyar dynasty and managed by Ritz Hotel Pvt Ltd from 1961-1997, it had to be closed due to poor maintenance and lack of patronage. The Government then decided to hand it over to JLR for renovation and management of the property to relaunch it. Set in two-acre land, Hotel Metropole has 27 rooms that include the heritage portion in the main building and 14 others which are newly constructed. With a new swimming pool and a well-decorated restaurant, Metropole now boasts of a fusion of traditional and modernity. Though JLR has been entrusted with the management responsibility of the property, it is proposed to be given to private party soon, said Mr Vinay Luthra, Managing Director, JLR. JLR, a Government of Karnataka undertaking formed with the objective of using minimum impact tourism to spread awareness about conservation among travellers, offers wide range of eco and adventure tourism outlets in its three wildlife lodges, an equal number of fishing camps, a private beach resort, a wilderness adventure resort and nature camp.
