Nabard sanctions Rs 94-crore loan to AP

THE National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has sanctioned Rs 93.58 crore as loan assistance to the Andhra Pradesh Government for implementing irrigation projects and rural drinking water supply schemes at an estimated cost of Rs 109.44 crore.

These projects have been sanctioned under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF-IX) by the 70th Project sanctioning committee at its meeting held on February 21 at New Delhi, according to a Nabard release here.

The sanctioned projects include 18 lift irrigation projects in 9 districts at 30 minor irrigation projects in 10 districts with a loan assistance of Rs 63.39 crore. These schemes are expected to provide assured irrigation to an ayacut of 11,436 hectares.

In addition, an amount of Rs 30.19 crore has been sanctioned for executing 9 protected water supply schemes in 5 districts of the State. These schemes are expected to benefit an estimated population of 3,68,745 in 90 habitations, the release said.

Besides, these projects are expected to create non-recurring employment to the extent of 95.74 lakh man-days. With the present sanction, the aggregate loan assistance sanctioned by Nabard to Andhra Pradesh during 2003-04 under RIDF-IX stands at Rs 868.20 crore.
