Six killed in Sriharikota blast

Hyderabad , Feb. 23

A BLAST in satellite launch home SHAR Centre at Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh and located about 100 km from Chennai, has left at least six dead and four injured, according to information reaching here.

The blast, which led to a fire, is said to have occurred in the solid propellant space booster plant of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) early in the day, police sources said here.

The cause of the accident is under investigation, even as top officials of ISRO and the Department of Space (DoS) are huddled in meetings.

The SHAR Centre, which houses the main launch pad, is involved in vehicle assembly and static test, range operations, liquid storage and houses the solid propellant space booster plant.
