Private airlines

This is with reference to "Fulfilling the agenda" (Business Line, February 23). As the editorial rightly points out, it is only natural to allow private airlines to fly abroad.

Though the Centre faced many difficulties and opposition from various quarters, it deserves praise for the way in which it has liberalised the skies. Also, the open skies policy can do wonders for the domestic travel and tourism industry. The fact that airports in Kerala recorded more than 40 per cent growth in traffic this fiscal is point to be noted.

Also, earnings from tourism, whose fortunes are linked to the number of seats that airlines offer, will grow substantially this year. The new initiative by the Centre will definitely improve the tourism in the region.
