Infrastructure Government - Policy Fast-track clearance for new IT buildings in TN Our Bureau
Chennai , Feb. 24 MULTI-STOREY buildings meant for information technology companies in Tamil Nadu will get fast-track clearance from the State. The Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu (ELCOT), a State Government undertaking, has approved 1.7 million square feet of space to the IT sector, at an estimated cost of Rs 350 crore from the private sector. Mr Vivek Harinarain, Tamil Nadu IT Secretary, said that clearance for new buildings for IT has been brought down to four weeks when earlier it would take more than six. Earlier, new projects needed clearances from five different departments, like traffic police, Fire Service, Chennai Corporation and Airports Authority of India, which delayed the project. However, under the fast-track clearance, if the approval from these departments did not come through in 10 days, it would be understood that there is no objection from them, he said. The IT projects will have top priority tags, he told newspersons here today, after a meeting with a core committee constituted for improving IT infrastructure in Chennai. According to Mr G. Santhanam, Member-Secretary, Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority, for IT multi-storey buildings, the builders need to give an undertaking that the building is meant only for IT or IT-related services. The State Government has also given a 100 per cent relaxation on FSI (floor space index) and a 50 per cent reduction on the existing stamp duty, said Mr Sudeep Jain, Managing Director, ELCOT.
