Akzo opens ICT centre in Bangalore

Our Bureau

BANGALORE: Dutch company, Akzo Nobel Car Refinishes, has opened its international information and communication technologies (ICT) competence centre in Bangalore.

The ICT competence centre will handle actual software development in a few years' time but it will initially focus on test work and activities like data retrieval and programmes. It will work closely with the existing global centre at Velp in the Netherlands.

Akzo said the move would strengthen its presence in the Indian market and develop it as a knowledge centre, aimed in particular at the collision repair market.

According to Ms Floris Zwarteveen, Manager of the global ICT centre, "The expansion of our global ICT centre to India is based on the growing necessity of IT in general, but more specifically on the future plans to develop new services for the collision repair market."

The global centre develops IT bodyshop systems like Carinfo, Sikkens e-benchmarking and Mixit. The Bangalore centre is part of Akzo Nobel Refinishes India, which was set up in 1997.

Akzo Nobel Car Refinishes supplies paint, decals, services and software for car repair, commercial vehicle and auto-plastic interior and exterior components. It is part of the 13-billion-euro Akzo Nobel, which is engaged in healthcare products, chemicals and coatings.
